Shubman was admitted to a nearby cricket institute from where he started practicing cricket. Due to his excellent batting, he was selected in Punjab’s Under Sixteen. Shubman started his first class career playing against Bengal at Amritsar ground. He played his first first class match for Punjab on 17 November 2017. In this Ranji Trophy match, he played a brilliant inning of 63 runs and in February 2017, Shubman was a part of the Indian Under series in which Team India defeated the England Under team. After which Shubman Gill was made the vice captain of India’s Under Ten Cricket World Cup team. Due to which he fulfilled his responsibility and scored 372 runs in the entire tournament. And seeing his good performance, in IPL 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for ₹ 1 crore and included him in their team.
