The first Cancer Awareness Day was started in India by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan Singh on 7th November 2014, after which it is being celebrated every year on 7th November.

According to the report of the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is the second largest disease worldwide, due to which most people die.

On the day of Cancer Awareness Day, free cancer screening and treatment is done in government hospitals all over India.

In order to give more emphasis to this campaign, in 1975, a program called National Cancer Control was conducted in India and through this program many conferences are organized from time to time.
