For the first time, a delegation of women presented a proposal to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child in the General Assembly of the United Nations and it was first decided on 19 September 2011 to celebrate 11 October as International Day of the Girl Child.
This day was officially accepted as International Girl Child Day on 11 October 2012, since then this day is celebrated continuously on 11 October.
