It is leading the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals. Zero Discrimination Day is being celebrated every year since 2014. The day creates awareness about discriminatory laws and other discrimination among the society and encourages various systems to end it officially.

This year WHO highlights the right of all people to live healthy and fulfilling lives with dignity, regardless of HIV, viral, hepatitis or sexually transmitted infection status. Apart from this, this day is especially celebrated by organizations like UNAIDS which opposes discrimination against people suffering from HIV/AIDS. UNAIDS is a model for UN reform and is the only co-sponsored joint program in the UN system.
