Speaking of the word “tsunami”, the word tsunami is a Japanese word which means “harbor wave”.
Tsunami is caused by a volcano or landslide arising in the sea and ocean, when a landslide or volcano erupts in the ocean or sea, externally there are fierce waves in the water, due to which the tsunami comes.
History of World Tsunami Awareness Day
The day was first started on 5 November 2015 by the General Assembly of the United Nations, whose purpose is to make people aware of the natural disaster like tsunami all over the world.
One of the main objectives behind celebrating this day is to educate and spread awareness to the people living in the sea area and small lamps, how to avoid this terrible disaster.
The deadliest tsunami occurred in December 2004, due to which about 2,27000 people lost their lives in many countries like India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia etc.
Main types of tsunami
There are mainly three types of tsunami, distant tsunami, regional tsunami and local tsunami.
- A distant tsunami is seen in the Pacific Ocean
- Regional tsunamis are seen only in some areas of the Parth ocean.
- Local tsunami originates in a particular place and disappears only there.
