Sarfaraz Khan received his primary education from Mumbai. He could not go to school for four years due to his cricket commitments and studied mathematics and English with private coaching. He used to devote more time to cricket than studies, hence he could not study much. He completed his schooling from Rizvi Springfield School.
His father Naushad Khan was also a cricketer, but he could never play for India. For this reason, Sarfaraz wanted to fulfill his father’s dream by playing in the Indian cricket team.

Sarfaraz spent most of his childhood in Azad Maidan. There his father and coach Naushad Khan used to train him. His coaching started at an early age, when his father discovered his talent for timing the ball well. Then Sarfaraz’s father had also laid a synthetic pitch next to the house for practice. Sarfaraz learned cricket under the tutelage of his father and became an excellent batsman.
Sarfaraz Khan came into limelight when he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 45-year-old record by scoring 440 runs in 421 balls in a Harris Shield match. In this innings he hit 56 fours and 12 sixes. He was playing for his school Rizvi Springfield. This was his first Harris Shield match in 2009 and he was just 12 years old. He soon started playing for the Mumbai Under Nines team and due to his performances, he was selected for the Indian Under Nines team.
Sarfaraz also played the 2016 edition of the Under-19 World Cup. Sarfaraz was the second highest run scorer in the tournament. He scored 355 runs at an average of 71 with five scores of over 50 in six innings. He holds the record for most half-centuries in World Cups at the Under-3 level, with seven half-centuries in two World Cups.

At the age of 17, he became the youngest player to play in the IPL. In the 2023 IPL, in the absence of Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz played as a wicketkeeper batsman for Delhi Capitals and scored 53 runs in four matches at an average of 13.25.
