After an amazing amateur career, he won silver in the mediumweight division at the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championship and the Summer Olympics in 2016.
Melikuziev made waves when he moved to the professional circuit on June 13, 2019, winning against Martin Fidel Rios in his big outing under the Brilliant Boy event. Following a string of victories, he was eligible to compete for the WBA Mainland Americas super-middleweight championship. On December 13, 2019, he defeated Vaughan Alexander in a 10-round bout to win the title.
